NEW YORK CITY -- The Albany Ga., Marine Corps Band played the Canadian and American National Anthem before the New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays baseball game at Yankee Stadium, New York City, July 4.
The band, stationed at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga., is one of twelve Marine Corps Bands. They serve as musical ambassadors providing music for military ceremonies, community celebrations, recruiting programs and official events. The band can perform as a ceremonial ensemble, marching band, jazz ensemble, brass and woodwind quintets, jazz combo, saxophone quartet and Dixieland band.
The Albany Ga., Marine Corps Band plays for more than 250,000 people each year. While Marine Musicians are selected by audition and must maintain a high level of instrumental proficiency, they are all trained to bear arms in defense of our country, fulfilling the Marine Corps tradition of “every Marine a rifleman.”
The Albany Marine Corps Band also played at the re-opening of the Statue of Liberty’s crown. The crown has been closed to the public since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. As part of the event's at Liberty Island, N.Y., the provided music during a naturalization ceremony for seven military service members.
