The purpose of the Marine Corps Book Program is to ensure the accuracy and integrity of information about the Marine Corps in non-fiction publications. This program seeks to assist authors provide an accurate account of the Marine Corps and to bolster knowledge of the Corps by ensuring the free flow of information through non-fiction publications to the public.

Book Program support for authors
Communication Directorate New York fields author requests for official support from the Marine Corps. To request support, authors must fill out the Author Request for Support form, attach a publisher’s letter of intent to publish, and email nycmarines@usmc.mil.
Book Program support to Marines, service members, DoD civilians, and contractor personnel
Military, civilian, and contractor personnel who have access to DoD information that is included in a publication, must submit their work for a prepublication security review. Any DoD-related material that is intended for public release or dissemination must undergo a prepublication security and policy review. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Manuscripts, books, theses
- Conference papers, briefings, brochures
- Articles, biographies, speeches
- Research and scientific papers
- International Traffic in Arms Regulations technical data
- Congressional hearing statements
- Reports to Congress, Reprogramming Actions, Selected Acquisition Reports
